Privacy Policy
Last updated: Jun 2, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Jay ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Jay service. Jay is a text-based assistant that connects to your Ring camera through the Ring App Store.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us directly
Your phone number, which we use to send and receive text messages with you via SMS, MMS, or iMessage.
The content of the text messages you send Jay, including questions, alert preferences, and feedback.
Account information you provide when signing up, contacting support, or managing your settings.
Information from your Ring account
When you authorize Jay through the Ring App Store, we receive the following from Ring on your behalf, only for the cameras and account you connect:
Live view access
Video snapshots
Device status
Doorbell events
Motion events
We do not collect Ring data from cameras or accounts you haven't connected. We do not access saved Ring video clips beyond what's needed to answer your questions or generate the alerts and summaries you've set up.
Information we collect automatically
Basic usage data about how you interact with Jay (for example, when you send messages, what features you use, error logs).
Technical data such as message delivery status from our messaging providers.
We do not collect precise location data, biometric data, or contact lists. Jay does not perform facial recognition, voice identification, license plate lookup, or any other biometric identification of individuals.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
Respond to your text messages and answer your questions about your camera activity
Generate the alerts, summaries, and notifications you've configured
Operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including improving the accuracy of Jay's responses
Send you service-related messages and respond to support requests
Protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents
Comply with our legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your Ring data, message content, or any data collected through Jay for advertising or marketing to third parties, and we do not share it with data brokers.
3. Text messaging and SMS consent
If you choose to receive text messages from Jay, we use your mobile phone number to send and receive service-related messages, including replies to your messages, camera activity alerts, summaries, setup messages, alert confirmations, and account-related updates. Message frequency varies based on your use of Jay, your alert settings, and camera activity. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help.
We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers, text messaging opt-in data, or SMS consent information with third parties, affiliates, or lead generators for their marketing or promotional purposes. We may share mobile phone numbers and message delivery information with service providers that help us operate Jay, such as telecommunications providers, messaging providers, cloud hosting providers, and customer support tools, but only as needed to provide the service to us and not for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
4. AI processing
Jay uses artificial intelligence to interpret camera events and generate responses. To do this, snapshots, event metadata, and the content of your messages may be processed by AI models operated by us or by trusted AI service providers acting on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and data-use restrictions. These providers are not permitted to use your data to train general-purpose models or for their own purposes.
5. How we share information
We share information only in the following limited situations. These sharing categories exclude mobile phone numbers, text messaging opt-in data, and SMS consent information, which we do not share with third parties, affiliates, or lead generators for marketing or promotional purposes.
Service providers. With vendors that help us operate Jay — for example, our cloud hosting provider, AI model provider, and customer support tools — under contracts that limit their use of your data to providing the service to us.
Messaging providers. With the telecom and messaging providers that deliver our text messages, including SMS aggregators and, where messages are delivered via iMessage, Apple's messaging infrastructure. These providers handle message routing and delivery subject to their own terms and privacy practices.
Ring / Amazon. With Ring as necessary to maintain the integration and as required by the Ring App Store program. We only access your Ring data as you authorize.
Legal and safety. When required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Jay, our users, or others.
Business transfers. If we're involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer to the successor, subject to this Privacy Policy.
With your consent. For any other sharing, we'll ask you first.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your information only as long as needed to provide the Service and for the purposes described above:
Text message history and Jay account data: while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for support and legal-compliance purposes.
Camera content and event metadata: short-term retention only — up to 30 days — so Jay can answer questions about recent activity. This includes snapshots, live view data, and event metadata from the cameras you've connected. Older data is automatically deleted unless you've specifically asked Jay to remember something.
Logs and security data: retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
You can request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limiting who on our team can see your data, and ongoing monitoring for security issues. While we work hard to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
8. Your choices and rights
Stop messages. Reply STOP to any Jay message at any time to opt out, whether you receive Jay's messages as SMS, MMS, or iMessage. We honor opt-outs across all message types for your phone number. This ends your ability to use Jay.
Disconnect Jay from Ring. Go to account.ring.com → My Apps → Jay → remove. This revokes Jay's access to your Ring data.
Delete your account and data. Email us at privacy@withjay.com, and we'll delete your Jay account and the associated data, including snapshots and event history we hold. We'll confirm when deletion is complete. We may retain limited information as required by law (for example, billing records).
Regional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA/CPRA (California) — including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit the use of certain information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@withjay.com. We don't sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under California law.
9. People recorded by your Ring cameras
Jay only acts on data from cameras you've authorized through your Ring account. If your cameras record other people — household members, guests, visitors, neighbors — you're responsible for placing cameras and giving notice in accordance with the laws that apply where you live, including any state, local, or workplace recording laws. Don't use Jay to surveil people who haven't consented, including ex-partners, employees, or anyone else.
10. Children
Jay is not intended for use by anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we've collected information from a child, contact us at privacy@withjay.com and we'll delete it.
11. International users
Jay is operated from the United States. If you use Jay from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. By using Jay, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the updated policy on our website and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we may also provide additional notice, such as by text or email.
