Terms of Service
Last updated: May 18, 2026
Welcome to Jay ("Jay," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Jay service, including our website at withjay.com, our text messaging service, and our integration with Ring cameras through the Ring App Store (collectively, the "Service").
By installing Jay through the Ring App Store, linking your Ring account, or texting with Jay, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What Jay does
Jay is a text-based assistant that helps you stay connected to your home through your Ring camera. You can text Jay to ask what's happened at your home, set up alerts for activity or inactivity, and receive summaries of what your camera has seen. Jay accesses your Ring camera data — including live view, video snapshots, device status, doorbell events, and motion events — through the Ring App Store integration you authorize.
Jay is a convenience and awareness tool. It is not a security, monitoring, medical, or emergency response service. Do not rely on Jay for emergencies. If you or someone you care about is in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to use Jay. You must have an active Ring account and any Ring subscription required to access the camera features Jay relies on. You're responsible for keeping your phone number, Ring credentials, and Jay account information accurate and secure, and for everything that happens through your account.
Jay is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 18.
3. Connecting your Ring account
To use Jay, you'll authorize Jay to access certain data from your Ring account through the Ring App Store. You can review and revoke this authorization at any time through Ring My Apps at account.ring.com. Revoking access will stop Jay from being able to function. If your Ring subscription lapses or is cancelled, Jay's access ends with it.
You represent that you have the right to grant Jay access to the Ring cameras and data you connect, and that anyone whose image or activity may be captured by those cameras has been informed in accordance with applicable law.
4. Text messaging
Jay communicates with you primarily by text message, delivered via SMS, MMS, or iMessage depending on your device and carrier. By providing your phone number and using Jay, you consent to receive text messages from Jay related to the Service, including responses to your messages, alerts you've set up, daily or activity summaries, and occasional service updates.
Message and data rates may apply, depending on your carrier and message type. iMessages sent between Apple devices are typically delivered over data or Wi-Fi rather than as carrier SMS. Message frequency varies based on your alert settings and activity at your home. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Jay message; you can get help by replying HELP. We honor opt-outs across all message types for the same phone number. Opting out will end your ability to use the Service, since Jay communicates only by text.
Jay's responses are generated in part by automated systems, including AI, and may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or delayed. Don't treat Jay's messages as authoritative — confirm important things directly in the Ring app.
5. Acceptable use
When you use Jay, you agree not to:
Use Jay to monitor, surveil, or track any person without their knowledge and consent, including spouses, partners, employees, tenants, or anyone else.
Use Jay in any way that violates applicable laws, including video recording, audio recording, wiretap, workplace monitoring, or privacy laws in your jurisdiction.
Attempt to access Ring data or accounts you don't own or aren't authorized to use.
Reverse engineer, scrape, interfere with, or attempt to disrupt the Service.
Use Jay to harass, harm, or impersonate anyone.
Resell, redistribute, or commercialize Jay or any output from Jay without our written permission.
You're solely responsible for ensuring your placement and use of Ring cameras connected to Jay complies with applicable law, including providing notice of recording where required.
6. Subscriptions, fees, and cancellation
If Jay is offered as a paid service through the Ring App Store, all purchases, billing, and cancellations are handled by Ring. Manage or cancel your subscription through Ring My Apps. Free trials do not auto-convert to paid subscriptions — if you take no action, access ends when the trial expires. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period.
7. AI-generated content
Jay uses artificial intelligence to interpret your camera events and generate summaries and responses. AI can make mistakes. Summaries may misidentify people, pets, or events, or miss things entirely. Don't rely on Jay's output for safety-critical decisions, medical decisions, or anything where accuracy really matters.
8. Intellectual property
We own the Service and everything in it (other than your data and Ring's content), including the Jay name, software, and design. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use Jay as described in these Terms. You retain ownership of the messages you send Jay and the Ring data you share with Jay.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, availability, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that Jay will detect every event, deliver every alert, or never make mistakes.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jay and its officers, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jay and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
12. Termination
You can stop using Jay at any time by replying STOP to a Jay message, removing Jay from your Ring account at account.ring.com, or contacting us at support@withjay.com. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you violate these Terms, if required by Ring or by law, or if continuing the Service becomes impractical. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the updated Terms on our website and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we may also provide additional notice, such as by text or email. Continuing to use Jay after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
